SurveyJS Roadmap for 2026

This page outlines recently released SurveyJS features and the enhancements and capabilities we're working on next. Our priorities are shaped by community feedback, internal discussions, and long-term product goals, with a focus on customization, visual consistency, performance, and the overall experience for both form creators and respondents.

Upcoming roadmap items include estimated delivery timelines where possible. Plans and timelines may change based on development progress and user feedback.

Released in SurveyJS v3.0

SurveyJS v3.0 is now available. The release introduced a shared styling system across the SurveyJS product family, along with major updates to Dashboard, PDF Generator, and Survey Creator.

At the core of the release is a new design token architecture that provides a common set of CSS variables across Form Library, Survey Creator, PDF Generator, and Dashboard. It enables you to apply consistent colors, typography, spacing, borders, control states, and other visual properties across the entire SurveyJS product family.

SurveyJS v3.0 also introduced ready-made style adapters for Bootstrap, Material UI, and shadcn/ui that connect the variables used by the host design system to the corresponding SurveyJS design tokens with minimal CSS work.

Dashboard Enhancements

  • Redesigned charts, tables, filters, and controls aligned with the SurveyJS v3 design system
  • New data analysis features
    • Date range presets
    • Cross-filtering
    • Sorting
    • Question selector
    • Answer count visualization
  • Pivot chart support

Appearance Customization

SurveyJS v3.0 introduced a shared design token system across all SurveyJS products. Developers can now customize a defined set of CSS variables instead of maintaining separate sets of component-level overrides. The new customization system includes:

  • Shared design tokens for colors, typography, spacing, borders, surfaces, states, and shadows
  • Reusable themes across Form Library, Survey Creator, Dashboard, and PDF Generator
  • Ready-made style adapters for Bootstrap, Material UI, and shadcn/ui

Side-by-Side Translation View in Survey Creator

A redesigned Translations tab that shows the source and target languages as two forms displayed next to each other, so translators see each string in the context where it appears rather than as an abstract row in a table. Planned capabilities include:

  • Form View and Grid View modes with a single toggle
  • Synchronized scrolling between the source and target forms
  • In-place editing of translations directly in the target form
  • Per-element access to all related strings, including those without a visual representation, such as custom validation and error messages
  • Machine translation for a single element or the entire form
  • Language list with per-language translation progress

Form Quality and Testing

Two tools that help teams catch problems in complex forms before respondents do.

Survey Linter

Static analysis for your survey JSON. The linter inspects a form definition and reports issues that are easy to miss by hand, especially in long forms maintained by several people over time. Planned checks include:

  • Broken references in expressions, visibility conditions, and triggers
  • Unreachable questions and pages
  • Duplicate or missing question names and values
  • Incomplete translations and untranslated strings
  • Structural and configuration problems that would produce unexpected runtime behavior

Results can be reviewed in Survey Creator or run programmatically as part of a CI pipeline.

Survey Tester

Automated tests for forms: define the answers a respondent gives and the results you expect, then verify that your logic, validation, and calculated values behave as intended. Manual clicking through Preview is no longer the only way to check that a complex form still works after a change.

The test runner ships as part of the open-source Form Library and is free to use. Survey Creator adds a visual authoring experience on top of it. Planned capabilities include:

  • Open-source test runner for running tests in your application or CI pipeline
  • A dedicated Tester tab in Survey Creator for creating and editing tests visually, in a UI similar to the Logic tab
  • Test recording: walk through the form once and turn your actions into a reusable test
  • Running all tests, selected tests, or test sets, with errors pointing to the exact place in the form
  • Replay mode that runs a test step by step in the live form so you can watch what happens

Data Grid for Large Datasets

A powerful grid component built on the Dynamic Matrix, designed for data-intensive scenarios such as administrative interfaces, internal tools, and complex data entry workflows.

Planned capabilities include:

  • Lazy loading with server-side data operations
  • Column reordering, sorting, and filtering
  • Infinite scrolling and pagination
